Recovering minerals using chemical leaching is a great way to maximize your operations. In the recovery of gold, a cyanide solution is evenly distributed across the top of the heap. The issue is the flow of the solution quickly slows due to the ores natural composition. This creates an extended leaching process, adding to operating costs and reducing the amount of gold recovered.

ETHOX 4804 PRODUCT TESTING:
The following test was designed to identify additives that prevent pooling of solution when it is placed on a heap of ore. Solutions that prevent pooling are expected to pass through the heap at a faster rate. The successful outcome would include a larger amount of recovered gold.

Ethox has developed a proprietary testing method that shows the remarkable benefits of using Ethox 4804. The testing method replicates the entire heap leach process. A mass of solution collected was plotted as a function of time in the chart below. As shown in the chart, the blank solution, which contained only sodium cyanide and sodium hydroxide, took over 2 hours (2:15) to penetrate the ore in the packed column, while the Ethox 4804 solution took 48 minutes to penetrate the ore.
Note that the flow rate for both solutions slowed greatly after nearly 600 grams of solution were collected. This is because the ore started to go dry at this point.
For comparison of flow rates of solutions, it is useful to compare the collection time for 550 grams. This is a point during the run where the column is still wet and there is still some liquid on top of the ore in the column. In this case the blank took 13 hours 25 minutes to reach the 550 gram point. Ethox 4804 reached the 550 gram point in approximately 4.5 hours.
Actual rates can be calculated from the raw data. Based on calculations, the Ethox 4804 solution passes through the column at a maximum rate of 3.2 g/min (at 2 hours). This compares favorably against the blank solution that had a slower maximum rate of 1.4 g/min (at 2 hours, 39 minutes).
Based on laboratory testing, Ethox 4804 decreases penetration time and flow rates when used as an additive in leachate solutions.
